Herron Enterprises Consults On Environmental Hazards And Impact

From private homes to major structures, such as hospitals and schools, Herron Enterprises assesses projects' environmental impacts and hazards. It also gets involved in the various phases of remediation. Lenny and Christy Herron have run their family-owned firm since 1991. "Specifically, we are industrial hygienists," Lennie says. "We're one of about 20 state-qualified companies."

Hazards typically include contamination of the soil, groundwater or structure by asbestos, lead paint, mercury vapor light bulbs and more. A recent project was soil inspection of the site for Lakewood's new hospital. Lennie summarizes his company's success with one word, "Integrity."



Mutual of Omaha Bank Is Actively Lending

"We are a well-capitalized organization with the backing of a large, conservative insurance company," says Carl Hamm, president of the Lakewood branch of Mutual of Omaha Bank. In late 2007, 100-year-old Mutual of Omaha Insurance Company entered the banking business and purchased seven former Peak National Bank locations in Colorado.

Mutual of Omaha Bank is expanding throughout the country, but it continues to preserve a community bank flavor through local management and local authority. The bank's focus is small- to medium-sized businesses. Hamm adds, "We are still actively lending and looking for good customers."



Bachman Auto & Cycle Service Center Stands Behind Its Work

Two business dreams merged in May 2007 when Charlie Bachman and Debi Korthuis opened Bachman Auto & Cycle Service Center. Bachman, a mechanic in his native Golden for 20 years, always wanted his own auto shop. And Korthuis, who managed automotive business offices for 20 years, always wanted to co-own and manage an establishment that helps people with their automotive needs.

The center services all makes and models of automobiles. "We do it all — anything from an oil change to an engine overhaul," Korthuis says. "And we stand behind our work 100 percent."



Westerra Credit Union Celebrates Strong Local Heritage

While the name is new, the 75-year-old, locally-owned credit union is not. Lakewood Branch Manager Yolanda Gonzales explains: "Three of the area's leading credit unions merged together as Westerra to offer members more locations and enhanced technology with competitive rates, solid expertise, top-notch service — and a trusted local resource for their financial needs." Bauer Financial, Inc. awarded Westerra the top rating — 5 stars — for safety and soundness. Westside Cycling and Multisport Adds Training Facility

This full-line, full-service bicycle outlet and training performance center recently opened its new "Road Zone," featuring the latest in road bikes and equipment from Giant, Specialized, Reynolds, Shimano and more. It has also dedicated its second floor to the Peak to Peak Performance Center, a state-of-the-art indoor training facility. Professional and recreational riders can train side-by-side, rare when training indoors.

"The performance center uses a computerized multi-rider training system, called the Compu-Trainer Studio, the first of its kind in Colorado," says owner Michael Gibson. "It is an efficient, popular and social way to train during winter months."
