Takakkaw Falls

Yoho National Park is located to the west of Banff National Park via the TransCanada Highway (Hwy. 1). The glacial waters of Takakkaw Falls, one of the park's captivating attractions, thunder down from the Waputik Ice Field into the Yoho River. Takakkaw means "magnificent" in Cree.

As we followed the asphalt path through a fir and spruce forest to the base of the falls, the temperature dropped several degrees. The torrent of water roared like a powerful beast and stirred the air into a stiff breeze that showered us with a chilly mist — refreshing on that hot July day.
