"America's Favorite Drive" is celebrating its 75th Anniversary in 2010 with events throughout the year at locations up and down the 469-mile parkway. You can see what events are scheduled during the time you plan to explore at the Blue Ridge Parkway 75th Anniversary website. y.

Blue Ridge Parkway The Blue Ridge Parkway's 75th Anniversary Weekend Celebration is scheduled for September 10 to 12, 2010. The event marks the beginning of construction of the 469-mile scenic byway on September 11, 1935, near Cumberland Knob, NC, (Milepost 217), which is close to the North Carolina and Virginia state lines.

The entire weekend will have traditional and regional music as its centerpiece. A Saturday night concert at the Blue Ridge Music Center will feature the legendary Ralph Stanley, Junior Appalachian Musicians and other notable musicians from the region.

Other nearby venues of this multi-day event will highlight regional music, crafts, storytelling, foods and children's activities. They include the Blue Ridge Music Center, the Cumberland Knob Recreation Area and the neighboring communities of Fancy Gap, Hillsville, Fries, Independence and Galax, VA.

Events celebrating the Blue Ridge Parkway's 75th Anniversary throughout 2010 will further enrich your experience of traveling "America's Favorite Drive."
